Grand Rapids, Mich. – The AQ women's rugby team traveled across town to Highland Park this past Saturday (Oct. 1) to compete in the Grand Rapids Rugby Clubs Breast Cancer Awareness Day event. The team played two sevens matches against Adrian College. The Saints would remain undefeated on the season, besting Adrian twice by scores of 10-7 and 20-5. AQ is now 3-0 in friendly games this fall.
The Saints won the first game by a score of 10-7 after
Natalie Vaitas scored two tries. The Aquinas defense held the Bulldogs to just one try and a conversion, giving AQ its second victory this fall.
The second game was not nearly as close as
Liberty Cawthorn and
Jenesis Dotson each scored two tries for 20 points. The defense was once again great, holding the Bulldogs to just one try. The 20-5 victory would be AQ's third victory this fall season.
Head Coach,
Laura Miller, couldn't be prouder of the growing women's ruby side. These were her thoughts after picking up two more wins on Saturday: "I'm incredibly proud of how the team responded to a tough Adrian side. The players are slowly building a culture with high standards for both on and off field behavior and it showed in this matchup. Adrian gave us our first real challenge as a squad and the team came together as a group and met it with grit and resilience."
The Saints women's rugby side will be back in action with a home matchup against McKendree on October 29th at 5:30 PM.
