Saints play to scoreless draw against #9 UNOH

The Saints hold the Racers to no goals for sixth shutout of the season

Lima, Ohio — The Aquinas men's soccer team earned a hard-fought road point Saturday (Oct. 8) afternoon with a 0-0 draw against No. 9-ranked University of Northwestern Ohio. The scoreless affair marked the Saints' second tie of the season, moving their record to 6-4-2 (3-1-1 WHAC).

UNOH, fresh off their first loss of the season on Wednesday (Oct. 5) against No. 22-ranked Indiana Tech, were prevented from getting three more points and are now 8-1-3 overall (3-1-1 WHAC).

The Racers outshot AQ in the contest 19-6 (4-2 shots on target). Theo Maye and Ricardo Rittersberger registered the Saints' shots on target.

A tame first half that only featured one yellow card to Saints defender Joe Lockey intensified in the second half with three UNOH players and a coach picking up cautions. Gonzalo La Chica drew a second yellow for a red card on a missed overhead kick that struck an AQ defender. He was sent off in the 85th minute. It wasn't enough time to change the complexion of the match.

AQ senior goalkeeper Antonio Strassioto made three saves for his sixth shutout of the season.

The Saints are back in action Wednesday (Oct. 12) at rival Cornerstone. Kickoff at 7 p.m.
