Bourbonnais, Ill. – Yesterday, (Oct. 8) the women's swimming and diving team was back in the pool for a meet against Olivet Nazarene and Bethel (Tenn.). The day was filled with highlights including the Saints first-ever team victory, first national qualifier, and a school record.
The Saints bested the Bethel Wildcats while falling to the Olivet Nazarene Tigers. The scores were as followed.
Olivet Nazarene: 193 - Aquinas: 66
Aquinas: 154 - Bethel: 81
Freshman diver, Sarah Colvin was the biggest highlight of the weekend. When competing in the 1 meter dive, Colvin finished with a score of 182.6. This score qualified her for the national competition in March.
The women's 400 free relay was gliding through the water and finished the event with a time of 3:55. With this time, the quartet of Claire Hines, Sam Casler, Maureen Lynch and Mary Grace Doyle placed third in the event out of six.
Lynch continued to set school records when she was in the 1650 freestyle. The new school record sits at 20:00 and placed her third in the event. Ryan Lozinski was also in the event and finished with a time of 23:36.
Then the freshman class continued to show out as Ella Althaver had impressive performances in the 200 fly and the 500 freestyle. In the 200 Fly, Althaver swam her way to a 2:28. Then in the 500 Yard Freestyle, Althaver finished with a time of 5:48. This time placed her fifth in the event out of eight. She was joined by Lynch and Avery Connors who finished with times of 5:54 and 6:36 respectively.
Aquinas will be back in action next Saturday for a meet against the Wildcats from Indiana Wesleyan. The Saints will travel to Marion, Indiana for the contest that begins at 2:00 PM.
