East Lansing, Mich. – The Aquinas women's rugby team traveled over to Lansing to take on the Michigan Wolverines in sevens competition. The game took place after a match between the Michigan Wolverines and the Michigan State Spartans in a Big 10 conference match. AQ took on a developmental side from the University of Michigan and won the game 34-5.
Aquinas is now 4-0 this fall season, concluding a fantastic start to women's rugby's first season of play.
Liberty Cawthorn and
Jenesis Dotson shined for the Saints today, each scoring three tries. Cawthorn also converted two of her conversions to give her 19 of AQ's 34 points today. Dotson would be the one to score the other 15 points.
The AQ defense had another superb outing, allowing just one try throughout the duration of the match. AQ has not given up more than seven points in one match throughout the entirety of the fall season.
Coach
Laura Miller could not be happier with her teams' performance. This is what she had to say after the game: "We want to thank University of Michigan for giving us an amazing opportunity to play one of the top teams within National Collegiate Rugby. The team should be incredibly proud both of their performance on the field today and through our first semester together as a group. We have made significant growth over our first semester together and are excited to begin our spring 7's campaign."
The Saints women's rugby team will be back in action this upcoming spring for sevens action.
