AQ Falls to Adrian in Road Matchup

Adrian keeps the Saints scoreless as Bulldogs win 4-0

The men's hockey team traveled to Adrian, Michigan to take on the Adrian Bulldogs last night (Feb. 9). The game started off slow, but Adrian broke the ice with the first goal late in the first period. Adrian would score three more before the final horn as the Bulldogs would win 4-0. Adrian's goalie would tally a perfect 38 of 38 saves in the victory. This result moves Aquinas to 16-8 on the season with an 11-6 conference record.

The first period had plenty of shots, but neither team managed to score for a majority of the period. Each side had a powerplay opportunity, but both teams successfully managed to kill off the powerplay. It wasn't until Adrian scored with 02:04 remaining in the period that the 0-0 deadlock was broken. Adrian outshot Aquinas by a total of 17-14 in the first period.

The second period was much of the same. Adrian scored within two minutes of the second period, but then neither side managed to score again. Both teams had two powerplay chances, but neither managed to capitalize on the chance. Adrian outshot Aquinas 14-13 in the second period with the score at 2-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

The game got pretty chippy in the third period with a total of seven penalties getting dished out. The bulldogs outshot the Saints 11-10 in the period and netted two more goals at the end of the period. The game would result in a 4-0 victory for Adrian.

Tyler Szturm got the start in net and saved 37 of 41 shots on target for a .902 save percentage. Szturm is now 3-3 on the season with a .897 save percentage.

Aquinas wraps up their season this weekend (Feb. 11-12) with a series against Davenport. The first game on Friday (Feb. 11) is at Southside Ice Arena with an 8:00 PM puck drop. The game on Saturday (Feb. 12) is at Patterson Ice Arena with a 9:00 PM puck drop.
