The Aquinas men's tennis team pulled off an impressive 7-2 victory over Hope College yesterday (Feb. 12) in Holland, Michigan. This victory is the first of the spring season for the Saints as the team improves to 2-6 overall.
AQ was dominant again in the doubles portion of the match, picking up a point after winning all three doubles bouts.
Joel Hancox and
Max Goldbeck-Lowe got the day going in the #1 match with an 8-5 victory.
Tom Gangov and
Brandon McEachern followed suit with a dominant 8-2 victory in the #2 doubles match.
Nicholas Klak and
Simon Uhlen rounded out the sweep with an 8-4 victory in the #3 doubles.
Gangov and Uhlen were a part of two very exciting singles matches that resulted in points for the Saints. After dropping the first set of the #2 singles 6-3, Gangov came back and won the second set 6-1 and the third set 10-5. Uhlen made a comeback of his own in the #4 singles match by losing the first set 7-5, but then proceeding to win the next two sets by scores of 7-5 and 10-5.
Goldbeck-Lowe swept his opponent in the #3 singles match, winning by scores of 6-4 in both sets. Klak also picked up a point in the #5 singles with set scores of 6-0 and 6-4.
Hancox fell in the #1 singles match by scores of 5-7 and 2-6, giving Hope its first point of the match.
Jackson VanBergen also went down in the #6 singles by set scores of 1-6 and 0-6. Overall, Aquinas was able to pick up a 7-2 victory over Hope College.
Aquinas is playing another match today (Feb. 12) against Calvin University at the MVP Sportsplex in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
