The Aquinas men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Midland, Michigan to compete against Northwood on Friday afternoon (Feb. 25). Competing at Colestock Courts, the AQ men fell to NU 6-1 as the women also dropped their match 7-0.
In the men's match, AQ was swept in the doubles matched as Northwood earned the point.
Joel Hancox and
Max Goldbeck-Lowe fell in the #1 doubles 3-6, then
Tom Gangov and
Brandon McEachern were defeated in #2 doubles 4-6. The closest doubles was match #3 as
Simon Uhlen and
Nicholas Klak fell 5-7.
The lone Saint to win a singles match was Gangov who took the #2 singles 6-2, 6-2. Hancox went to three sets in the #1 singles and ultimately fell 7-6, 3-6, 8-10. Goldbeck-Lowe (4-6, 2-6), Uhlen (6-7, 1-6), Klak (0-6, 2-6), and
Josep Coll Llopis (3-6, 6-7) all fell in straight sets.
On the women's side, AQ was able to take one doubles match, but ultimately the Timberwolves took the doubles point 2-1.
Sofia Gomez and
Joska Volder continued their dominance in the #1 doubles, defeating NU 6-4. However,
Carlota Arzabe and
Mimi Pacheco fell in #2 doubles 1-6, while
Vanessa Heylmun and
Jenna Hausman also dropped the #3 doubles 2-6 giving Northwood the doubles point.
All set singles match were straight set losses for the Saints as Gomez (2-6, 1-6), Arzabe (3-6, 5-7), Volder (1-6, 0-6), Heylmun (1-6, 1-6), and Hausman (1-6, 1-6) all fell. Pacheco was forced to withdraw from her match after dropping the first set 0-6.
Both the men's and women's team will travel to Sylvania, Ohio tomorrow (Feb. 26)to compete in their first WHAC match of the season against Lourdes. Matches will begin at 5:00 PM.
