The Aquinas women's tennis team gained its first WHAC win of the spring season by dominating a road match over Lourdes on Saturday evening (Feb. 26) down in Sylvania, Ohio. The Saints only dropped three sets all night as they top the Gray Wolves 7-0 to get the conference season started on the right foot.
The doubles team of
Sofia Gomez and
Joska Volder moved to 8-1 in #1 doubles matches this season and won their eighth in a row in 6-0 fashion.
Carlota Arzabe and
Vanessa Heylmun played their first match together this season in #2 doubles and also brought home a 6-0 win.
Mimi Pacheco and
Jenna Hausman picked up a win by default in #3 doubles as Lourdes could not field a third team.
The singles matches were just as dominant as the doubles, beginning with Gomez in #1 singles as she won 6-1, 6-0. Arzabe defeated LU in the #2 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Volder (#3 singles) and Heylmun (#4 singles) swept both matches 6-0, 6-0.
The Gray Wolves did not have players for the #5 or #6 singles as Pacheco and Hausman picked up wins by default.
The next matches the Saints will play will be two over spring break as they will travel to Orlando, Florida. On March 8, AQ will face Kansas Wesleyan before turning around and play Southeastern on March 10.
