The Aquinas men's tennis team was defeated in the first match of the 2022 season to Ferris State on Friday evening (Feb. 4). The Saints competed against the Bulldogs at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Michigan where FSU took a 7-0 win over AQ.
In the #1 doubles match, the tandem of
Joel Hancox and
Max Goldbeck-Lowe were upended 6-1. The pairing of
Nicholas Klak and
Simon Uhlen did not fare much better in the #2 doubles match, taking the 6-2 loss. Ferris State completed the doubles sweep after newcomer
Tom Gangov and
Jackson VanBergen were defeated 6-2 as well.
The closest singles match of the day came in the #4 match were Uhlen hung in a fight, but ultimately lost 6-3, 6-4. New this semester, Gangov also put up a good match in the #2 singles after going home with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat. Hancox went down in the #1 singles 6-1, 6-1, Goldbeck-Lowe was defeated in the #3 singles 6-2, 6-0, Klak lost in the #5 singles 6-0, 6-1, and VanBergen finished the day out with a 6-2, 6-1 loss in the #6 singles.
Aquinas has a quick turnaround with the first home match of the season being tomorrow (Feb. 5) against Huntington. The match will be played at Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Center with the match beginning at 12:30 PM.
