The Aquinas men's tennis team got a nonconference win in dominant fashion against Manhattanville on Wednesday (Mar. 9) in Orlando, Florida. In the 9-0 win, the Saints swept all the matches played in their first action over spring break. The other scheduled match on Wednesday against Warner (Fla.) was cancelled due to rain.
AQ improved its overall record to 5-7 on the season and are still 1-0 in the WHAC after defeating Lourdes in the first conference competition.
Doubles partners
Joel Hancox and
Max Goldbeck-Lowe improved to 5-2 in #1 doubles matches on the season with an 8-1 victory.
Tom Gangov and
Brandon McEachern also continued their success in the #2 doubles match by taking home an 8-3 win and now have a record of 4-1 this spring.
Nicholas Klak and
John Elizalde finished out doubles by winning 8-5 in their first doubles match together this season.
Hancox (6-0, 6-2), Goldbeck-Lowe (6-2, 6-0), and
Simon Uhlen (6-1, 6-0) cruised through the #1, #2, and #3 singles matches with ease.
Josep Coll Llopis in the #4 singles was the only match to go three sets and ended up pulling out the 6-1, 3-6, 10-1 victory.
Jackson VanBergen (6-4, 6-2) and
Mariano Arroyo (6-1, 6-2) finished out the sweep with wins in the #5 and #6 singles matches.
Aquinas is currently playing two matches today (Mar. 10) that started with #18 Southeastern this morning at 10:00 AM and will finish up against Kansas Wesleyan tonight at 6:30 PM.
