The Aquinas men's and women's tennis teams took on UNOH in the second home match of the spring season on Saturday (Mar. 19) in Holland, Michigan. Both teams were defeated 4-0 as the matches were cut short as soon as the Racers got the winning point. The UNOH teams were both at least receiving votes in the top-25 both as the men are ranked #8 and the women are receiving votes. The AQ men's team now has a record of 7-8 (2-1 WHAC) on the season, while the women are 7-11 (1-2 WHAC) this year.
On the men's side, the Racers took two out of three doubles matches to gain the doubles point.
Joel Hancox and
Max Goldbeck-Lowe went down in the #1 doubles 4-6, as
Tom Gangov and
Josep Coll Llopis were defeated in the #2 match 2-6. The pairing of
Simon Uhlen and
Nicholas Klak were able to get a win in the #3 doubles match by a 6-1 score.
Only the #1, #2, and #3 singles matches were finished as UNOH was able to clinch the win. Hancox was defeated in the #1 match 2-6, 2-6, while Gangov was tripped up in the #2 singles 3-6, 3-6 and Goldbeck-Lowe went down in the #3 match-up 5-7, 1-6.
The women did not fare much better as the Racers defeated
Vanessa Heylmun and
Carlota Arzabe in the #2 doubles 1-6 and then picked up a win by default in the #3 doubles due to AQ not having enough players to take the doubles point.
Sofia Gomez and
Joska Volder were not able to finish the #1 doubles match.
Two of the three singles points were also wins by default as the third came in the #5 singles as Heylmun went down 1-6, 0-6. Gomez, Volder, and Hausman were not able to finish their matches.
Both teams will next move on to play Lawrence Tech in another WHAC match-up as they travel to Southfield, Michigan on Saturday (Mar. 23) with the matches beginning at 5:00 PM.
