The Aquinas men's lacrosse team continued their season today opening up conference play against UM-Dearborn. The Saint's snapped a two game skid after defeating the Wolverines 17-7.
The Saints are now 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference while Dearborn falls to 2-6 and 0-1.
AQ got off to an early lead and never let off the gas pedal in the contest. In the first period
Mitch Haggart and Hunter were both able to score before Dearborn got on the board. At the end of the quarter, AQ lead 5-3 with the three other goals coming from Haggart,
Zachary Sweet, and
Joey Fitzgerald.
In the second, the Saints continued in their scoring ways when they had five goals compared to Dearborn's one. After one goal from the Wolverines, the rest of the period belonged to AQ. Goals this period came from
Mitch Haggart (2),
Alex Rolands,
Joey Fitzgerald, and
Blake Baker.
In the third, AQ tied their season quarter goal total with six. Haggart continued to lead the Saints in scoring as he netted two more goals. Other goals came from
Jon Jardis,
Kevin LaHaie, Sweet, and Fitzgerald. Then, in the fourth, both teams scored one point with Aquinas' goal coming from
Brady Waling.
AQ saw three different men in net today including
Clayton Boerigter,
Ricky Vega, and
Austin Hynote. The trio accumulated at total of 9 saves and seven goals against.
Aquinas totaled 50 ground balls in the game with 10 coming from
Kevin LaHaie and six coming from
Reed Chastain. The team also accumulated 17 caused turnovers with LaHaie and
Cam Gunn leading that category with three each.
Aquinas will be back in action in two days when they had to Fort Wayne for a matchup against Indiana Tech. The game is set to begin at 7:00 PM
