The Aquinas women's tennis team has won its third match in a row after a dominant nonconference win over Manhattanville on Wednesday morning (Mar. 9) in Orlando, Florida. The Saints have now won both of their spring break matches after sweeping the Valiants 9-0.
AQ has improved to 6-7 on the season and are still 1-0 in the WHAC after defeating Lourdes in the first conference competition of the spring last week.
AQ swept the doubles matches to gain the doubles point and lead 1-0 heading into the singles matches.
Sofia Gomez and
Joska Volder have now won 10 in a row in #1 doubles matches this season after taking the match 8-0.
Carlota Arzabe and
Mimi Pacheco also won the #2 doubles match 8-0, then
Vanessa Heylmun and
Jenna Hausman won the #3 doubles match by forfeit after Manhattanville could not field a team.
Arzabe competed in the #1 singles spot and only dropped one set by winning the match 6-0, 6-1. Volder took the #2 singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 as Heylmun had a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the #3 singles match-up. Hausman came away with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the #4 singles match, while Gomez and Pacheco were credited with a forfiet win in the #5 and #6 singles spots.
Aquinas is next scheduled to take on #17 Southeastern (Fla.) in Lakeland, Florida on Thursday (Mar. 10), beginning at 10:00 AM. The Saints will also take on Kansas Wesleyan on Thursday to make up for the missed match due to inclement weather on Tuesday. This match is set to start at 6:30 PM in Orlando, Florida.
