Like the women's lacrosse team, the men's lacrosse team was in action today against Madonna, but the men were on the road against the Crusaders. Thanks to a string of goals in the first and fourth quarters, the Saints were able to defeat Madonna by a score of 17-10 this afternoon.
The Saints improve to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while Madonna sits at 2-3 and 2-1 in the conference.
As mentioned the Saints put on a clinic in the first quarter with five goals and not allowing one on their end. Goals in this quarter came from
Mitch Haggart (2),
Brady Waling,
Kevin LaHaie and
Kyle Gauthier.
Gauthier then struck first in the second quarter with a goal at 9:23 when he was assisted by
Jon Jardis. From here the Crusaders went on a small run and scored four times to send the two teams into the half with a score of 6-4.
In the third quarter, AQ found the back of the net four times compared to three times from Madonna. Two came consecutively from
Zachary Sweet and the other two came from
Blake Baker and Haggart to earn him a hat trick.
In the final quarter, the Saints were able to ice the game when they scored seven more times. Goals in the period came from
Hunter Roberts,
Alex Rolands, Jardis, Sweet (2), and Haggart (2).
Clayton Boerigter played a majority of the game in goal and recorded seven saves and nine goals against.
Ricky Vega checked in in the final minutes of the game and had one goal against him.
Gavin Kleynenberg lead the team in ground balls with seven. Then
Lou Nageotte had two caused turnovers to contribute to the teams six. Aquinas recorded 50 total shots and 55 ground balls compared to Madonna's 35 and 46.
The men will play against Concordia on Wednesday, April 6 when they host Concordia. The two teams will begin the match at 5:00 PM.
