The Aquinas men's tennis team competed against Adrian College on Wednesday (Apr. 20) in Adrian, Michigan at the Craft Tennis Complex. The Saints completed the 9-0 sweep over the Bulldogs, who are an NCAA DIII opponent. AQ improves its record to 10-10 on the season, while AC drops to 8-8.
The Saints cruised in the doubles matches by winning all three convincingly.
Joel Hancox and
Max Goldbeck-Lowe improve to 9-5 on the season in #1 doubles after taking the match 8-2. In the #2 match,
Nicholas Klak and
Simon Uhlen won 8-3, while improving to 3-2 in #2 matches and 11-3 overall as double partners.
Brandon McEachern and
Jackson VanBergen completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory in the #3 match for their first win as partners this season.
The most exciting singles match came in the #1 singles as Hancox completed the comeback victory for his seventh win this season. After dropping the first set 4-6, Hancox rallied to win the second set 6-4 and the deciding set 10-6. The rest of the singles matches were handled easily, especially for
Tom Gangov who swept the #2 match 6-0, 6-0 for his 10th win of the semester. Goldbeck-Lowe took his ninth match of the season in the #3 singles 6-2, 6-2.
Uhlen also garnered his ninth win of the year in the #4 singles match, winning 6-1, 6-1.
Josep Coll Llopis also joined the Saints at the semester break and moved to 6-3 with the 6-1, 6-0 victory in match #5. Rounding out the sweep was Klak after gaining his sixth win of the season in the 6-3, 6-1 win.
Aquinas has one more regular season match before the WHAC Tournament on Saturday (Apr. 23) in Spring Arbor, Michigan as the match against the Cougars begins at 10:30 AM.
