Men's Rugby Finishes 1-3 Against Tough Competition at OSU Sevens Invitational

The AQ men's rugby team competed in its second sevens tournament of the 2022 season this past Saturday (Apr. 25) at the Ohio State University Sevens Invitational. Overall, the team went 1-3 on the day after competing against some tough competition.

The Saints started the day in the opening round against a tough and established Notre Dame team. Aquinas would make the game close, but the Irish managed to squeak by in the first round with a 28-24 victory over AQ. In the next bracket of play, Aquinas would draw the Ohio State Buckeyes as its next opponent. Again, the Saints would have no issues scoring points, but the Buckeyes offense would be too much for Aquinas. The Buckeyes would go on to win 40-26.

AQ found a familiar face in the consolation bracket of the tournament in the Purdue Boilermakers. The Saints topped Purdue 19-7 in the first round of the survivor cup at the Irish Invitational nearly a month ago. Aquinas would, again, get the better of the Boilermakers in the OSU Invitational, winning by a shockingly similar 18-5 score.

Aquinas would move on in the consolation bracket, but Notre Dame College would put an end to the Saints day in Ohio. The Falcons would put on an excellent offensive showing and win the match 38-14.

After finishing 3-2 and third overall in the survivor cup matchup at the Irish Sevens Invitational, the rugby program is 4-5 on the year in its first season here at Aquinas.
