The Aquinas women's tennis team wrapped up its WHAC regular season with a convincing win over Concordia on Friday (Apr. 8) at the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Center. The Saints only dropped five sets all day to the Cardinals, cruising to a 7-0 win. AQ is now 9-12 on the season and finished with a 3-3 conference record, currently sitting in fourth place as other teams still have WHAC matches to complete.
Sofia Gomez and
Joska Volder went 3-1 in the WHAC this season as #1 doubles partners after winning 6-0 and moving to 14-4 on the season. In the #2 match,
Carlota Arzabe and
Mimi Pacheco got their first conference win as double partners, taking down CUAA 6-1 and improving to 5-6 this semester. Rounding out the doubles point in match #3 was
Vanessa Heylmun and
Jenna Hausman, who also won their first conference doubles match together this season in a 6-1 victory.
There were three different Saints who did not drop a set in the singles matches with Volder, Heylmun, and Hausman all winning 6-0, 6-0. Volder finished the conference season with a perfect 4-0 record in #3 singles matches and moved to 13-3 on the season. Winning the #5 singles was Heylmun who rounded out WHAC play with a 3-1 record and improved to 11-9 on the year. Hausman went 3-0 this year in WHAC #6 singles matches and gained her fourth win overall.
Gomez, Arzabe, and Pacheco all only dropped one set in their singles matches. In the #1 match, Gomez won 6-0, 6-1 to finish out the WHAC regular season 2-2 and won her seventh match overall. Arzabe has been a great mid-year pick up as she went 3-1 in #2 WHAC singles and improved to 9-5 overall this semester after winning 6-1, 6-0. With a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the #4 singles, Pacheco finished the conference season 2-1 and won her fourth singles match this year.
Aquinas is wrapping up its regular season with a nonconference match against Davenport on Saturday (Apr. 9), beginning at 2:00 PM.
