Men's Lacrosse Falls 14-4 In Semi-Finals to Defending Champions Reinhardt

The men's lacrosse team was in action today in the second round of NAIA National Invitational after defeating St. Ambrose yesterday to advance to the semifinals. The #6 Saints matched up against #2 ranked Reinhardt who are coming off a national championship last season. After jumping out to an early lead, the Saints ended up falling in the contest by a score of 14-4.
 
Reinhardt drew first blood in the game when they scored at 13:34. But then Aquinas got to scoring when Mitch Haggart found the back of the net at 9:01 and tied the game up. Jon Jardis then scored at 5:02 when he was assisted by Joey Fitzgerald. Haggart would add one more goal at 4:03 on a man up goal to put the Saints up 3-1 at the end of the first period.
 
To start the second period, Reinhardt scored first again, but this goal was quickly answered by Kyle Gauther when he scored at 12:41 of the second. From here, Reinhardt went on to score a plethora of goals in the period with seven more scores to put them up 9-4 at the half.
 
After many efforts in the second half, AQ couldn't find the back of the net, while Reinhardt was able to score five more times resulting in a final score of 14-4.
 
Coming off a big game yesterday, Clayton Boerigter faced thirty shots on goal today. He was able to save 16 of them while having 14 goals against him. Boerigter also lead the team in ground balls with seven. Then Kevin LaHaie, Boerigter, Cam Gunn, and Alex Rolands all accrued two caused turnovers in the game.
 
Reinhardt bested the Saints in shots (54-24), ground balls (49-26), and faceoffs (16-6). AQ had more saves in the game with sixteen compared to Reinhardt's eleven.
 
Tonights result marks the end of the season for Saints. They finish the year with an 11-5 overall record and a conference record of 8-1.
