Women's Basketball falls 79-54 to Rochester Despite Thomas' Double-Double

Rochester Hills, MI - The women's basketball team was on the road today as they faced off the against the Warriors of Rochester University. Despite a double-double from Alexis Thomas, the Saints were unable to keep up with the Warriors and fell by a score of 79-54.
 
Aquinas falls to 8-11 this season with a conference record of 4-9. Rochester moves to 12-8 in the season and 10-2 in conference play to put them second overall in the WHAC.
 
Aquinas drew first blood in tonight's contest with a jumper from Mauriya Barnes. The two teams would stay close throughout the duration of the first quarter with five different scorers for AQ. In the final minute of the quarter a string of turnovers and fouls would see the Warriors squeeze out a couple extra points to put them up 20-14 heading into the second quarter.
 
The second quarter would mirror the first as the Warriors would have 20 points to the Saints 14 again. Mauriya Barnes would have her best quarter with six points to lead AQ, but the Saints would find themselves down 40-28 heading into the locker room.
 
Starting the second half the Saints would hang with Rochester and were even able to cut the lead down to seven halfway through the quarter. In the last five minutes though the Saints struggled to find the bottom of the net as Rochester went on a 16-3 run to end the quarter leading 64-44.
 
In the fourth both teams had their lowest scoring period of the game (15-10) with the Saints unable to complete the incredible comeback. At the buzzer, the score read 79-54 in favor of Rochester.
 
The Saints were sunk by Rochester's points off turnovers as they had 38 to AQ's 11. The Warriors bench was also pivotal in the win, scoring 45 points to Aquinas' nine.
 
Alexis Thomas was the Saints leading scorer and rebounder with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Emily Cline nearly had a double-double as she finished with 13 points and eight boards. She was also able to accrue five assists tonight. Eliza Brown was the top shot blocker with two.
 
Aquinas will take a break from conference play as they travel to South Bend, IN for a matchup against receiving votes IU-South Bend. The contest will take place on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
