Shutout Streak Hits 1,000 Minutes, AQ Women's Soccer Draws 0-0 at Siena Heights

The Saints play to a scoreless tie in a battle for first place in the conference

Grand Rapids, Mich. — Both teams came into the match unbeaten. Both teams left unbeaten.

In a battle for first place in the conference, the No. 7-ranked Aquinas women's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie Wednesday night (Oct. 18) against Siena Heights in Adrian, Mich. AQ moved to 11-0-3 overall (6-0-2 WHAC), while SHU is now 10-0-5 overall (6-0-2 WHAC).

Aquinas kept its 11th straight clean sheet and hasn't allowed a goal in 1,016 minutes of game time. AQ's two total goals conceded this season is tied for the best mark in the NAIA with The Master's.

AQ sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Shuk had to work harder than usual for her 11th shutout this season (24th of her career) by tying a season-high with four saves.

Siena Heights took more shots than Aquinas on Wednesday (12-10), but AQ put more shots on target (6-5). It's just the second time this season that an opponent has taken more shots than Aquinas.

Half of AQ's shots on target came from Sandra Segovia. Maeva Lichtensteiger and Brittney Probst were also credited with shots on target.

Aquinas committed 21 fouls to SHU's nine in the contest and picked up the only yellow card of the match in the 26th minute to Emily Gignac.

Prior to Wednesday's draw, AQ had won the last seven meetings against Siena Heights.

Aquinas hosts Cleary next on Saturday (Oct. 21) for Senior Day, being the last regular season home game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for noon from the AQ Athletic Field.
