Saints Push Winning Streak to Five by Defeating Lawrence Tech

Aquinas women's volleyball takes LTU in four, tying for first in the conference

Southfield, Mich. — The Aquinas women's volleyball team took to Southfield this evening (Oct. 4) to take on the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. AQ would take the first set, drop the second, but then claimed the third and fourth. This Saints win put them at 20-4 overall (9-1 WHAC).

It's the third time in the last four seasons that AQ has hit the 20-win plateau.

The match was off to a competitive start as Aquinas would take the first set by only a three point margin (25-22). Lawrence Tech would keep the action alive by pushing the second set past the traditional 25 point finish, as the Blue Devils took the set (27-25). AQ would bounce back and come on top in the third taking the set (25-21). The Saints would continue their streak and closed out the final set by six (25-19).

Samee Teachworth led the team in kills with 14, as Michelle Domey followed with 12 and Abbi Perkins added 11.

AQ  held a strong advantage in the ace department, as the Saints collected 10 compared to the Blue Devils' one. Jordyn Carlyle provided four, Chloe Hogarth with three and Julia Schweihofer, Cece Pelak and Lydia Harper all stamp in with one.

Harper and Teachworth would continue to be a problem for Lawrence Tech on the net as Harper tallied four blocks, while Teachworth chimed in with three. Jenna Lee would also get in on the blocking party and take home one.

Harper would go on to get 46 assists, which is double the amount LTU's assist leader would receive. Carlyle also had seven assists.

The Aquinas defense was alive and active as Carlyle led the digs department with 22, Hogarth claimed 11, while Harper picked up eight.

The Saints are back in action next Friday (Oct. 13) with a pair of home matches. Aquinas will take on Kuyper at 4 p.m. and Lourdes at 7 p.m. But the action doesn't stop there as Aquinas will also square off against Siena Heights at home next Saturday (Oct. 14) at 2 p.m.

After Wednesday's matches, Aquinas and Indiana Tech are now tied for first in the conference (9-1 WHAC) at the midway point of the conference season.
