East Lansing, Mich. — On Sunday (Nov. 5th) the Aquinas women's hockey team traveled to the Munn Ice Arena to finish its two game match up against the Spartans of Michigan State. The Saints put on a better performance than the previous bout, but it wasn't enough to take down the Spartans. Michigan State took the weekend sweep with a 5-2 finish.
The first period of play was back and forth and the score would remain 0-0 until late. The Spartans would break the scoreboard silence and put one in with just 1:46 remaining in the first. What remained of the first period would not see any further action. The first came to a close at 1-0, MSU.
At the start of the second the Saints were eager to get on the board. In the previous match
Jenna Blackwell was the only one to strike true and she did it again in this one. Blackwell slapped one in with an assist from
Kylie Rancilio with16:52 remaining in the second.
MSU managed to strike back at 3:32. But Aquinas refused to go to intermission down a goal.
Kate Kramm plunked one in with just 50 seconds remaining in the period.
AQ and the Spartans would hold each other at bay for over half of the third period. But MSU found a hole in the Aquinas defense and went on to put up three goals in the period. The game would finish 5-2 in favor of the Spartans of Michigan State.
In total, MSU had 54 shots while Aquinas had 19.
The Saints are back in action on Saturday (Nov. 11) with a 4:30 p.m. puck drop at Southside Ice Arena against Minnesota.
