Allendale, Mich. – The Aquinas women's rugby team played in its first competition of the spring season today (Feb. 25). The Saints took on the developmental sides of Bowling Green and Grand Valley State, and the Saints crushed both teams. AQ scored 55 points in the game against Bowling Green and 60 points in the game against Grand Valley. The Saints defense gave up a grand total of zero points over the two games.
Liberty Cawthorn and
Jenesis Dotson continued to shine for Aquinas today. Cawthorn scored four tries while Dotson scored three.
Aseel Jadallah and
Natalie Vaitas each scored a try themselves while
McKenna Kaczor scored two in the huge win against the Bowling Green Falcons.
Cawthorn outdid herself again in the 60-0 win over the Lakers, scoring five tries for a total of 20 points. Dotson, Jadallah, Kaczor, Vaitas,
Angelica Castillo,
Maddie Wasko, and
Laura Pointon all scored one try for a total of 12 tries in the blowout victory.
The AQ defense allowed an impressive zero points in the two victories today. Through the Saints' six developmental games during the 2022-23 campaign, Aquinas has outscored its opponents 214-17, collectively.
"I'm very happy with the team's development so far this spring. As a unit, the players are beginning to play creatively and are developing the ability to make decisions as a team in open play," said coach
Laura Miller of the performance today. "In the coming weeks, they will be challenged by physical programs at the Warren Wilson College tournament and at the University of Michigan tournament before we head to the postseason."
Aquinas heads down to Swannanoa, North Carolina on March 18th to play at the Warren Wilson College Classic. This tournament will be the first time the Saints compete in competitive play. Â
