Grand Rapids, Mich. — The Aquinas women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to NCAA Division II Davenport on Friday afternoon (Feb. 3) inside the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Center.
With only five players on the roster, the Saints had to forfeit two matches — No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The Panthers won the other two double matches by the same score, 6-1, to earn the first point of the contest.
AQ's lone win in its spring debut came at No. 2 singles where
Sofia Gomez took down Skye Vandeleur, 2-1, by set scores of 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Gomez's doubles partner, No. 1 singles player
Joska Volder lost in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) to Amy Bloch.
No. 3
Carlota Arzabe, No. 4
Mimi Pacheco and No. 5
Alyssa Jack fell in a similar familiar fate with AQ losing three more two-set matches.
Aquinas looks to bounce back tomorrow (Feb. 4) at Calvin.
