The Saints won 6-3 to upend the nearby NCAA Division III opponent

Grand Rapids, Michigan — The Aquinas men's tennis won its first spring match on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4) against in-city NCAA Division III foe Calvin.

Coming off a loss Friday to Davenport, the Saints (1-1) bounced back with a 6-3 win over the Knights at the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.

AQ won two out of the three doubles matches with the No. 1 pair of Tom Gangov and Josep Coll Llopis winning 8-2 and the No. 2 pair of Max Goldbeck-Lowe and Nicholas Klak picking up an 8-6 victory.

All four also went on to win their singles matches. No. 1 Gangov topped Harrison Sindelar in a third set tiebreaker (4-6, 6-4, 10-5). No. 2 Coll Llopis easily took care of Corwin Kim (6-4, 6-1). No. 3 Goldbeck-Lowe rolled to a straight sets win over Emmanuel Hen Estrada (6-3, 6-3). And, last but not least, No. 4 Klak needed a third set tiebreaker to edge Stuart Johnston (4-6, 6-2, 10-7).

No. 5 singles player Jackson VanBergen lost a close match to Ryan Broek (6-1, 1-6, 12-10) and No. 6 Mariano Arroyo suffered a pair of 7-6 set defeats to Adam Zentner.
