Women's Lacrosse Defeats Marian 16-10 to Advance to WHAC Tournament Final

Grand Rapids, Michigan - The Aquinas Women's Lacrosse team eagerly anticipated this evening's semifinal matchup against the Knights of Marian University. After sixty minutes of play the women of AQ walked away with the 16-10 victory and advance to the WHAC Tournament final.
 
AQ improves their record to 12-2 this season, with this being the second season in a row, AQ hits 12 wins. They currently have an 8-1 conference record.
 
The game's first goal came from Cierra Davis on a free position shot at 8:54. After losing the next draw control, the Saints sprinted back down the field with another goal only 54 seconds later. This came by way of McKenna Burke. Burke would then assist on a goal to Trinity Reynoso for her first of many in the game. Minerich netted AQ's next goal at 4:13 after receiving an incredible assist by Stella Bottum.  Bottum took a turn scoring for herself at 3:00 minutes. AQ held Marian to only two shots in the first quarter, with neither being on goal.
 
Marian got on the board for the first time at 14:14 in the second period. This was followed by another free position goal by Cierra Davis at 12:34. After one Knight goal, the Saints scored three more times before Marian could answer. The three goals came from Katelyn Hall, Reynoso, and Bottum. Marian would score twice to reel AQ in before the half with the score reading 9-4.  
 
Despite the Knights scoring once to begin the half, AQ outscored their opponents 4-1. Shaylin Rings had the first goal for AQ on a woman up opportunity. Then on a free position shot Kennadie Minerich scored her second of the game at 7:40. Bottum would have the third goal of the quarter at 2:20 followed by a Reynoso goal at :52.
 
Marian made a run in the fourth outscoring AQ 5-3 but it was too little too late as the Saints walked away with the 16-10. Two goals in the quarter came from Trinity Reynoso while one came by way of Stella Bottum.
 
In net, Azariah Wells anchored the Saints saving 11 of the 21 shots on goal. Reynoso had the most goals for AQ with five followed by Bottum with four. Minerich would assist on 25% of AQ goals. The WHAC Defensive Player of the Year lived up to her award this evening, when Villarini recorded seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.
 
The conference honored athletes after the game that earned all-conference honors. This included All-Academic, Champion of Character, and All-Conference first and second team for the Saints. The Aquinas All-Academic Honorees are pictured. 
 
AQ heads to the conference tournament final on Saturday, April 22 against Lawrence Tech. The away competition take place at 1:00 PM.
