Dearborn, Mich. — All good things come to an end, or so they say.
The Aquinas men's soccer team allowed its first goal in 513 minutes of game time on Wednesday night (Sept. 27) but that didn't deter them from grabbing a sizable 5-1 road victory over the UM-Dearborn Wolverines.
The Saints (6-1-1, 2-0 WHAC) scored four of the goals in the second half after holding a slim 1-0 advantage at halftime over the Wolverines (1-5-1, 0-2 WHAC).
In the 31st minute,
Jasper Schinkel scored the opening goal with
Ricardo Rittersberger on the assist.
Junior transfer
Yussef Hakmaoui scored unassisted 42 seconds in the second half to put the Saints up 2-0. It was his first career goal for AQ in his second-ever game.
Four of the six goals scored in the game came within a span of three minutes and five seconds between the 53th and the 56th minute.
This came right after UM-Dearborn's Ahmad Masood Afzali was shown a red card (after his second yellow) in the 48th minute and forced the Wolverines to play down a man the rest of the game.
A total of 10 cards were shown in the chippy affair with eight of them on UM-Dearborn and two flashed in AQ's direction.
Rittersberger scored twice to continue his hot form to start this season. He is now tied for fourth in the NAIA with 11 goals this season in just eight games played.
Defender
Jesunifemi Ojutalayo, making his 40th career appearance, got forward and scored his first goal for the Saints with
Joshua Clemitson on the assist to cap the scoring in the 56th minute.
AQ outshot UMD 18-7 (9-5 shots on target). The Saints also had four more corner kicks (7-3).
Tough test ahead as Aquinas brings its six-game unbeaten streak into No. 25-ranked Madonna on Saturday (Sept. 30). Early afternoon kickoff at 11:30 a.m. with the women's soccer game to follow at 1:30 p.m.
