Saints Fall to Warriors on Snowy Friday

Romijn gets in front of 83 shots on target, but AQ's offense stalls for 7-0 result.

Byron Center, Mich. – The Aquinas women's hockey team returned to the ice this afternoon (Jan. 12) at Southside Ice Arena for the first time since December 9th. AQ matched the No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech Warriors and the Warriors powerful offense proved to be a tall ask for the Saints. Indiana Tech scored a pair of goals in the first and never looked back, winning the game 7-0.

Aquinas falls to 1-11-0 on the season with a 1-8 conference record. The Warriors improve to 15-5-1 with a 10-1 conference record.

IT peppered the net early with almost ten shots on target in just the first few minutes. Julia DeHondt got in penalty trouble with 17:26 on the clock and the visitors immediately capitalized, slotting the puck past Kadynce Romijn's right blocker to take a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors continued to control the pace of play and doubled their lead with six minutes remaining on the clock. Dakota Bowler scored her 11th goal of the season with the helper coming from Hailey Hudder. Indiana Tech outshot the Saints 30-3 in the first period.

The offensive showing from Indiana Tech continued in the second period, putting another 26 shots on target. Allison Greene put the puck into the top right corner of AQ's net eight minutes into the period to extend the lead to three goals.

Arina Jusczak added to the lead just two minutes into the final period. Hailey Anderson scored the fifth goal of the game with 11:41 left on the clock. The game settled down following that fifth goal until the visitor tacked on two more inside the final two minutes of the contest, ending the game with a score of 7-0.

Romijn ended the game with 83 saves for a 92.2 percent save percentage. This match was her second 80-save game of the season. She has a 91.1 percent save percentage on the season and is averaging 51.33 saves per game.

With tomorrow's game postponed due to inclement weather, the Saints next matchup is against Michigan State University in the Traverse City showcase. The game is set to take place on Friday (Jan. 19) at 6:00 p.m.
