Four-Goal Second Period Pushes Michigan Past Aquinas

Box Score Traverse City, Mich. – Aquinas women's hockey was back on the ice this afternoon (Jan. 21) to take on the Michigan Wolverines. U of M scored one in the first period and then broke the floodgates open in the second period with four more goals. Aquinas picked up the pace in the third but failed to find the back of the net for a 5-0 result.

Aquinas moves to 1-12-1 on the season.

Michigan scored its first goal just a few minutes into the game as the Wolverines controlled possession of the puck. The Saints had a couple of power play opportunities in the first period, but UofM kept Aquinas off the scoresheet to keep the game at 1-0.

Within a seven-minute window in the second period, the Wolverines managed to tack on four more goals to establish a commanding five-goal lead. AQ had another power point chance near the end of the period, but the two sides went into the final intermission with the score still 5-0.

The Saints applied a bit of pressure on Michigan in the third period, but they couldn't quite find the back on the net. Both offenses stalled as the clock wound down to zero and the game ended 5-0 in favor of the maize and blue.

By the Numbers

Kadynce Romijn was back in the net for the Saints and she saved 34 of the 39 shots she faced for an 87.1% save percentage. The Wolverines outshot the Saints 39-12.

Aquinas is back on home ice this Saturday (Jan. 27) for a rare afternoon game. AQ is set to take on Grand Valley at 2:00 p.m.
