Box Score Redford Charter Twp, Mich. – The AQ men's hockey team returned to the ice on Saturday night (Oct. 19) to play the second game of the weekend series against Indiana Tech.
Evan Doan scored a goal in the first to tie up the game, but LTU scored again in the second and third periods to claim a 3-1 win over AQ.
This result now moves Aquinas to 1-6-2 this season with a 0-1-1 conference record.
Lawrence Tech 3, Aquinas 1
Lawrence Tech opened up the scoring in the first period with an unassisted goal nine minutes into the game.
Evan Doan responded with a goal of his own just minutes later after a pass from
Cooper Nienhuis to level the score at one.
The Blue Devils had another chance to score late in the first period after an AQ penalty, but the Saints penalty kill was on point to negate the opportunity. The Saints then had a powerplay chance of their own at the end of the first, but LTU kept AQ at bay to keep the score at 1-0 going into the first intermission.
Aquinas spent a good portion of the second period a man up on the ice after a series of Lawrence Tech penalties, but the Saints could not quite find the back of the net. During one of the periods of time that the game was five-on-five hockey, LTU found the back of the net once more to take the lead. Aquinas had a couple more powerplay opportunities, but a consistently stout Blue Devil penalty kill was in action all period to hold onto the lead.
The third period settled down with just one penalty on each team. However, despite the play being well-matched, neither team managed to strike again throughout a majority of the period. It wasn't until the end of the game when LTU scored an empty net goal to secure the two-goal victory.
By the Numbers
- Doan's goal was his third of the season.
