Box Score Byron Center, Mich. — Aquinas Men's hockey hosted their home opener against the No. 13 Grand Valley, hosted at Southside Ice Arena. The Saints had a slow start but picked it up with one goal in the second period and two in the third. Unfortunately, AQ was defeated and the Lakers stayed on top of the contest winning 6-3 in the second game in the two-game series.
#13 GVSU 6, Aquinas 3
The first period was one for the Lakers. They were able to secure three goals right off the bat, including one of those goals with the Saints down a man. The score at the end of the first was, Grand Valley State 3-0.
Early on in the second period, the Saints own,
Xavier Erickson, was able to score for the Saints. This goal was assisted by
Arseniy Malyutin. GVSU followed this up with two goals of their own leaving Grand Valley up at the end of the second, with a score of 5-1.
The Saints kicked it into gear in the third period. They held the Lakers to one goal while the Saints put up two. The first goal of the period was the first goal of Malyutin's collegiate career. This goal was assisted by
Gavin Rozema and
Alex Johnson. The second goal was scored by Erickson. Johnson and
Nick Dashner Assisted him on the goal.
The Lakers remained ahead with a final score for the contest being #13 GVSU 6, Aquinas 3.
