Aquinas Drops Tough Contest to #16 Indiana Tech

The Warriors highlighted a strong offensive performance with a 6-0 victory.

Box Score Byron Center, Mich. – The Saints men's hockey team returned to Southside Ice Arena on Friday night (Nov. 15) for a tough matchup against No. 16-rated Indiana Tech. The Warriors jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. By the end of the 60-minute regulation, the scoreboard showed 6-0.

The result moves AQ to a 4-11-2 overall record and a 3-5-1 WHAC record.

Indiana Tech 5, Aquinas 0

The Warriors jumped out to a quick lead after scoring a pair of goals in the first five minutes of play. The Saints managed to generate a couple of solid looks on net, but the Warriors' strong defense kept AQ off the scoreboard. The Saints picked up their first penalty of the contest with a little under seven minutes to go in the first period and the Warriors managed to capitalize on the mistake. IIT found the back of the net once more in the first period to put AQ behind 3-0 after one period of play.

The second period started a bit slower for both teams, but Indiana Tech picked up the pace after the first five minutes. With a flurry of offense, the Warriors managed to add two more goals within one minute of time on the clock to extend their lead to five.

Indiana Tech kept the pressure on and earned another powerplay opportunity several minutes later. However, AQ managed to kill off the second IIT powerplay of the game and kept the Warriors at five goals for the remainder of the second.

The final period quieted down for both teams. Indiana Tech managed to find one more goal and AQ had one of its best chances of the night with Xavier Erickson putting a shot off the post. The two sides combined for 18 shots on net as the third period quickly passed by. After a brief scuffle at the end of the game, the final buzzer rang with a 6-0 scoreline.
