Short-Handed Saints Fall to Concordia 4-0

Byron Center, Mich. – The Aquinas women's hockey team returned to Southside for a game against the Concordia Cardinals Friday night (Nov. 15). Both teams entered the contest yet to pull off a win this season, making this game a turning point for one of the teams this year. CUAA came out of the games swinging and proved to be the one to mark this game as the first win of the season. After three periods of play, Concordia pulled off a 4-0 win.

Concordia 4, Aquinas 0

The first goal of the game came with 13:42 remaining on the clock against a short-staffed Aquinas side. AQ did a solid job defensively but was stifled offensively by the Cardinals throughout the first period with CUAA outshooting the Saints 20-4.

AQ had a bit more success in the second period, generating eight shots on target to double its first-period number. However, it was Concordia who pulled off the second goal of the contest with a short-handed goal with 12:31 remaining on the clock.

The final period saw CUAA tack on its third goal of the game early on in the period. Just a couple of minutes later, the Cardinals found themselves with a powerplay opportunity and capitalized, leading to the fourth and final goal of the game. The final 10 minutes remained scoreless, but the game concluded with the Cardinals on top.

By the Numbers:
  • The Cardinals outshot the Saints 43-17 over the full 60 minutes.
  • Izzy Buckett ended the night with 39 saves, recording a .907 save percentage.
