Despite a strong offensive showing at the start of the first period, the Saints managed to hold the number seven team in the country off the scoreboard for some time. That finally changed with about five minutes left to play as Calvin found its first goal of the contest. A late Saints penalty in the first provided the Knights with their first powerplay opportunity of the game. Calvin capitalized, finding a quick goal and doubling its lead heading into the second period.
The ensuing period saw much of the same with Calvin managing possession for a substantial portion of the frame. CU outshot AQ 23-10 in the second period, but
Randon Striplin kept the Knights out of the net to keep the deficit at just two goals.

The Knights scored another goal with 12 minutes to play and then managed a short-handed goal near the end of the contest. The final horn sounded for a 4-0 Calvin victory.
