Marquette, Mich. – The AQ women's lacrosse team kicked off their season today (Feb. 10) against a strong DII Northern Michigan University team in the Superior Dome. The Wildcats scored early and often against Aquinas on their way to a 24-5 victory.

The Wildcats had a strong 2023 season that saw NMU go all the way to the GLIAC championship game against Grand Valley State University last season. The home team picked right back up where they left off, scoring 12 unanswered goals to start the game.

Alex Sullivan scored AQ's first goal of the season in the second quarter with Kennadie Minerich assisting. Brianna Trepins added on a goal at the end of the half to give AQ two.

Shaylin Rings scored a pair of goals in the third and Sophia Schmader scored Aquinas' fifth in the fourth quarter.

By the Numbers

Rings ended the game with a team-leading two goals while Minerich assisted a pair. Sullivan put away a goal and assisted another to give each of the three Saints two points.

Kennedy Stilson started in net for the Saints, recording nine saves throughout the 60 minutes.

AQ has a little over a week to righten the ship with its next contest on February 18th. The Saints will play an early-season conference match against Madonna at 2:00 p.m.
