Saints Drop Road Contest to Indiana Tech

Brown-Boyd, Lary, and Boyd combine for 49 points.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Aquinas took on conference foe, Indiana Tech, this afternoon (Feb. 3) for its third consecutive road trip. AQ was looking to take its momentum from the win over Lawrence Tech into the contest today. However, a late run in the first half from IT was the deciding factor in the match.

The home side picked up a 96-78 win over Aquinas to improve to 14-8 overall and 12-4 in the conference. AQ slides back to .500 with an 11-11 overall record and an 8-8 WHAC record.

Andrew Larson connected on a three and two jumpers to give the Saints their first seven points of the game. A Jared Lary layup and a Donovan Brown-Boyd three had AQ up nine in the first five minutes.

Indiana Tech responded to Aquinas' early pressure with a massive run over the next 10 minutes of play. Indiana Tech connected on nearly every shot it took, outscoring Aquinas 32-8 over that 10-minute period.

A Jared Dugener layup cut the deficit back down to single digits with just over a minute to play, but Tech answered with another small run to take a 12-point lead into the locker rooms. The home team shot an impressive 61.5% from the field and scored seven of 10 three-point attempts in the first half.

The Warriors steadily maintained a double-digit advantage in the second half until Aquinas connected on three quick threes from the duo of Brown-Boyd and Lary to cut the deficit to just eight with five minutes to go. Tech managed to stifle the building momentum after scoring two free throws and dunking home a fast-break bucket.

IT continued to pressure AQ until the final whistle, winning the contest 96-78.

By the Numbers

Indiana Tech had an impressive day at the office shooting the ball, scoring at a rate of 61.5% from the field to AQ's 39.7%. The Warriors won the rebound battle 40-33 and committed nine fewer fouls.

Aquinas ended the game with 13 steals and forced 17 IT turnovers, allowing the Saints to score 30 points off turnovers.

Brown-Boyd continued to be AQ's primary offensive weapon this game, leading the team in scoring with 19 points. He connected on four threes, grabbed seven boards, and picked up two steals.

Boyd had a nice day shooting the ball, scoring six of 12 attempts for 15 points. Additionally, he had six rebounds, seven assists, and a pair of steals. Lary matched Boyd's scoring with 15 points of his own. He shot 6-14 from the field while recording six boards, six assists, and a steal.

Aquinas returns to Grand Rapids this Wednesday (Feb. 7) for a clash against Cleary. The Saints will tip off at 7:30 p.m. following the women's game.
