(RV) Saints Face Off with #9 Knights

AQ puts up 10 goals to Marians 21

Grand Rapids, Mich. — The Aquinas College women's lacrosse team hosted the #9 Marian Knights for the Saints second home game of the season on Wednesday (Mar. 27). AQ found better footing in this game than its previous contests and managed to dance along with the Knights until Marian upped the tempo. At the final horn, MU took the game 21-10.

AQ bounced out at the tweet of the first whistle as they went on to pick up the first goal. Shaylin Rings tallied it in unassisted.

Marian rebounded with two goals, but Sophia Schmader tied the game at 2-2 with a pass from Kennadie Minerich. Soon after, Marian found a three goal spree to spread the difference to 5-2. 

For the remainder of the first, AQ went on to score two more goals. Trinity Reynoso found her first with an assist from Ashley Suske. And Alex Sullivan notched one with an assist from Minerich.

The second quarter saw Marian collect five scores as Aquinas picked up three, making the difference 13-7 entering the half.

Katelyn Hall found a goal with an assist from Rings to start the second half. Rings also stamped in two more goals to earn herself a hat trick while being involved on every single point scored in the third quarter.

The second half is where the Knights set the pace as 11 points were scored for the remainder of the game, only three of which belonged to AQ. Hall collected her second goal with a pass from Alexis Villarini and Alex Sullivan found the net with another assist by Villarini.

The only goal in the fourth quarter for the Saints was collected by Reynoso with an assist from Rings.

At the final horn the #9 Knights took the game 21-10.

By the Numbers

Rings notched a hat trick while also collecting two assists.

Reynoso, Hall, and Sullivan all stamped two goals. Schmader got involved with one.

The Knights out shot AQ 39-19.

Marian grabbed 19 ground balls to AQ's 10.

The Saints are back on the AQ Athletic Field on Saturday (Mar. 30) at 5 p.m. to continue conference play against Rochester.
