Saints Compete in a Pair of Defensive Battles Against Undefeated Racers

UNOH remained undefeated in conference play with a pair of wins against the Saints

Lima, Ohio – The Saints took on the Racers today (Mar. 29) for a conference doubleheader matchup. The Saints battled hard but were unable to take down UNOH, who remained undefeated in conference play. Game one was a tough battle, with the Saints only able to earn three hits. In game two, the Saints kept it close with a score of 3-2 but fell just short in a defensive battle. Grant Martin brought in the first run against UNOH with a home run.

This moves the Saints to 12-14 on the season and 4-4 in conference play after today's result.

Game 1: UNOH 7, Aquinas 0 (7 Innings)

In the first inning, Mark Binkowski started the Saints bats with a single towards the third base line. Binkowski was left on base due to the Racers' tough pitching.

The Racers clocked in a run in the first inning and three more in the bottom of the second to bring the score to Racers 4, Saints 0.

For a few innings, the bats were silent for both teams until Nathan Wilcox rang up a nice double to right center. However, once again, the UNOH pitching was able to hold AQ to one hit this inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Racers had another big inning. They had three runs, on three hits, and left three on base, bringing the score to 7-0.

The Saints were able to hold the Racers at seven for the rest of the game. AQ was able to earn another hit in the top of the seventh from Martin. The final score remained 7-0 UNOH.

Game 2: UNOH 3, Aquinas 2

In the second and third innings, the Saints earned one hit in each inning. The first by Luke LaCross to right center and the second by Ramsey Bousseau to left field. UNOH was able to make contact with the ball and brought in two runs by the third inning.

In the fourth inning, the Saints scored their first run with a home run bomb by Martin. The Racers didn't rest long before they brought in another of their own. This brings the score at the bottom of the fourth inning to 3-1 UNOH.

The innings to follow were quiet for both teams until the Saints brought some energy into the top of the sixth inning. Nicolas Verdugo was the first on base after the reliever hit him with a pitch.

Verdugo was able to advance to third on an errored pickoff attempt from the pitcher. With Verdugo at third, Wilcox singled with a hit up the right side, moving Verdugo in. This put the Saints only down by one run with a score of 3-2 UNOH.

Jack Crittendon and Mason Hill pitched for the Saints. Crittendon had four strikeouts. Hill threw one strikeout and had zero runs and zero errors.
