Atchison, Kan. — The Aquinas College men's lacrosse team traveled down to Atchison, Kansas, to take on the (RV) Ravens of Benedictine. BC struck first but did not strike much after that. The Saints rallied in the second and took the contest from there. AQ takes the match 12-5.
Aquinas 12, Benedictine 5
BC earned the first goal of the contest with 10:33 remaining in the first. A rebuttal from Cooper Neinhuis slung in a pass from
Dean Cooper as less than a minute later.
A stalemate held both offenses at bay until the third minute, the Ravens notched two more goals. As time wound down,
Cade Linnemeyer stamped in a last-second goal with an assist from Cooper. As the clock expired the scoreboard read 3-2 in favor of the home team.
The Ravens were singing their song-bird songs in the first, but the rest of the contest saw the Saints sing their own tune.
Entering the second quarter, the Saints began to march and hum. From that Nienhuis collected three straight goals, each with their own demanding thrum. The first goal in this sequence was assisted by Linnemeyer, while the other two were unassisted.
Benedictine found a single goal to answer Nienhuis's spree, making the game 5-3. But AQ would go out of the half with the final word as
TJ Murphy found the back of the net unassisted. The remainder of the half saw no additional goals.
The halftime intermission came and went, as the teams re-entered the field it was evident that the Saints were still humming.
Murphy came back into play with a flash as he stamped in another goal just over a minute into the third quarter, Cooper tallied the assist.
The third quarter was all AQ as the Saints collected four unanswered goals in total. Scoring for Aquinas: Murphy,
Nico Kittredge,
Brady Waling, and Nienhuis assisted by Cooper, The Saints had driven the score to 10-4.
In the fourth quarter three more goals would be had, two of which came by the Saints. Kittredge found his second, while Linnemeyer also found his second with an assist from
Oliver Modderman.
The Ravens tried to get back in position but no gust could carry them back to contending formation.
AQ takes the win over BC, 12-5.
This win pushes Aquinas to a standing of 2-0, and Benedictine falters to 2-3.
