#9 Indiana Tech Double Downs with #7 Saints in WHAC Tournament Semifinals

IT hands AQ another loss for its third of the season

Fort Wayne, Ind. — The Aquinas College #7 men's lacrosse team continued the busy demand of post season with another Top 10 conference match up against the #9 Indiana Tech Warriors on Thursday (Apr. 25). The Saints had just completed their rescheduled contest with #10 Siena Heights the night prior as they found a narrow 10-9 victory. The last time the Saints and Warriors met saw the Saints succumbed to their second WHAC opponent by a score of 16-13. This contest saw a similar result by different means as, this time, the Warriors bested the Saints 11-2, bringing and end to their WHAC Tournament run.

The scoreboard found its first addition close to five minutes into the contest when IT managed to beat the defense twice for a score on each drive. Aquinas was able to find an answer in the first by Braeden Williams with help from Dean Cooper. With just over three minutes remaining, the teams locked eachother out from scoring positions.

The second period saw Indiana Tech find three goals as AQ only managed a single, this time Cooper breached the net with a pass from Williams. 

Entering halftime the game was within three, 5-2 in favor of IT. 

But, entering the second half, the momentum switched and it was IT for the remainder of the contests. The Warriors went on to drop three goals in both the remaining periods of play as Aquinas was unable to make ends meet for a score. The final scorecard read 11-2 for the Warriors.

By the Numbers

Cooper and Williams tag teamed for both scores on the day giving them both two points. 

IT had 43 shots while holding AQ to 20.

Keeper Austin Hynote managed a total of 17 saves.

AQ had 32 turnovers to IT's 15, while also earning 30 ground balls to their 40.

Up Next

This defeat brings the end of the teams WHAC Tournament run, but the team will remain patient to hear about their fate regarding nationals with hopes of an at-large bid.
