Ramsey Bousseau Broke Four Different Records in Dominant Showing Over Rochester

Bousseau had a career day, breaking the single-game home run, grand slam, total bases, and RBI records.

Rochester Hills, Mich. – The Saints traveled to the east side of the state today (Apr. 26) to start their final four-game weekend. Aquinas demolished the baseball today, hitting eight home runs against the Rochester Christian Warriors. AQ won both games today, moving into sixth place in the WHAC standings.

AQ won the first game 5-4 and the second game 21-7. The massive offensive outburst was an all-time day for the Saints. Aquinas batted in 21 runs, which ties the all-time single-game RBI record set back in 1999. Seven home runs were the second-most ever recorded in a single game, the last time was that game against Spring Arbor in 1999.

Individually, Ramsey Bousseau just rewrote a large portion of the single-game batting record in Aquinas history. The freshman launched three home runs, the first time that has ever been done in AQ's storied history. His 12 home runs accounted for 12 total bases, another program record. He is the first player in AQ history to hit two grand slams in one game. Finally, his 10 RBIs also landed at the top of the record books. The previous record was seven RBIs, which had been done three times previously.

Aquinas is now back to .500 this year with a 24-24 record and 16-14 in WHAC play. With two more wins tomorrow, the Saints could potentially move up to 5th place in the WHAC.

Game 1: Aquinas 5, Rochester Christian 4 (7 Innings)

Rochester struck first in the bottom of the second after a single and double brought a run home. Both teams left at least one runner on base through the first four innings, but only that Warriors run was scored through the first 24 outs.

That changed in the top of the fifth as an offensive outburst from AQ finally brought runs home for the visitors. Luke LaCross singled and Dawson Shearer was hit by a pitcher to put two runners on immediately.

Bousseau doubled to bring in one run and JD Gillies hit a single to take the lead. Rochester finally generated an out, but Grant Martin blew the game open with a massive home run, scoring three and taking a 5-1 lead. With that homer, Martin had hit a bomb in three of his last four games.

Rochester Christian started a comeback, scoring three runs over the next three innings. The fourth tying run tried to make it home on the game's final play, but Chase Ingersoll hosed the runner at home to secure the win.

Conor Gausselin earned his sixth win to the season after giving up just two hits over five innings with nine punchouts.

Game 2: Aquinas 21, Rochester Christian 7 (7 Innings)

The home run fest started in the first inning. Martin launched his second of the day and his fourth homer in the last three games. A costly error allowed Gillies to reach base and Ingersoll made the error much worse as he joined the home run party to give AQ three runs. RCU hit a home run of its own in response and then scored again in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to just one.

With four hits in the third, RCU took its first lead of the game. The Warriors then extended their lead to two in the bottom of the fourth. That lead evaporated in the top of the fifth frame as the Saints scored an incredible 12 runs on nine hits.

Kasy Shadduck walked before Bousseau crushed his first home run of the season to tie the game. Martin and Gillies both singled before Ingersoll sent his second dinger over the wall to take a three-run lead. A pair of walks and Nathan Wilcox being hit by a pitch loaded up the bases for Shadduck to single in a run.

Bousseau then absolutely blew the game wide open with a grand slam. Just his second career home run sent four runners home for a 13-5 lead. Nicolas Verdugo singled just for Martin to hit another home run, his second of the game and the Saints' fourth homer of the inning.

The two teams traded runs in the bottom of the fifth and the top of the sixth, but AQ was not done scoring and Bousseau was not done hitting. In the top of the seventh, Rochester walked four consecutive Saints before Bousseau crushed his third home run and second grand slam of his historic game.

Rochester scored one run, but it ultimately did not matter. The game was called early due to AQ's 14-run lead.

By the Numbers

Bousseau's day might never be topped. He went 3/5 at the plate with all three of his hits being home runs and two of those home runs being grand slams. He hit home 10 RBIs to set a whole list of records. Even more incredibly, Bousseau had not hit a home run in his career before today.

Both teams had the bats going as AQ led in batting average (.344-.339), hits (21-20), and stolen bases (6-4).

Martin had the most hits today as he remains extremely hot, posting five hits. Bousseau (4), Ingersoll (3), Gillies (3), Dawson (2).
