Defiance, Ohio – After picking up a 6-0 win over Siena Heights on Wednesday (Sept. 25), the Saints were looking to keep the momentum rolling. Not only did AQ accomplish just that, but Aquinas scored the most goals in the game since 2012. The Saints rolled past Defiance on their way to an 8-0 victory. AQ has now won two games in a row and has improved to 6-3 this season with a 2-2 conference record.
Aquinas 8, Defiance 0
The scoring started early as
Milan Hoeffnagel scored off of a corner from
Yussef Hakmaoui just two minutes into the contest. Incredible defense and goaltending from Defiance kept the score at 1-0 Tristan Frazzini made seven saves over the next 20 minutes to keep the game close. However, a foul by the Yellowjackets inside the box put
Ricardo Rittersberger on the spot for him to slot away the penalty kick for a 2-0 lead.
That goal sparked the Aquinas offense as
Fikret Hasovic scored a pair of goals in less than two minutes to double the AQ lead in the 35th and 36th minutes. Another goal from Rittersberger gave Aquinas a 5-0 advantage heading into the halftime locker rooms.
Joshua Clemitson provided the helper on the goal.
Following the 15-minute halftime, Aquinas instantly got a corner kick. Clemitson sent the ball in and found
Josh Freeman-Wright on the receiving end for the sixth goal of the contest.
The game finally began to calm down a bit as Aquinas began rotating players into the game. In the 66th minute,
Joe Lockey added on another goal before Cater Hagan scored goal number eight in the 87th minute. That eighth goal to give the Saints an eight-point lead also established the largest winning margin that the Saints have had since 2012.
The first goal of Hagan's career for AQ would be the last today as AQ finished the game with an 8-0 lead.
