Saints Fight but Falter in Game One with Lawrence Tech

LTU finds the upper hand and victory, 3-0

Box Score Redford Charter Twp, Mich. — The Aquinas College men's hockey team opened up 2025 with a road contest with conference opponent Lawrence Tech. The Saints battled with the Blue Devils, but were unable to sink a goal before the final horn of regulation. LTU managed to stayed out of arms reach as they went on to win the contest 3-0.

The Saints looked to open 2025 swiftly as they shot off at the drop of the puck. Both teams searching for weaknesses in order to find the first advantage of the contest. But the first period would go quiet as no team would manage to find the back of the net. 

The second period saw the Blue Devils jump to the chase, as the visitors found the first goal of the night just over 45 seconds into the period. Aquinas sought their rebuttal but came up short on each attempt. After the first goal, the period once again returned to a stalemate. Aquinas searching for an equalizer as the Blue Devils hoped to stay out of reach. The horn once again rang as just six seconds remained in the period, LTU found a late goal to extend their arm prior to the periods conclusion.

The third saw the Saints increase their fervor, but were still just one puzzle piece away from cracking into the net. With 2:40 remaining, AQ took their timeout and devised their plan, and pulled the keeper. One final goal came and went within the final sixty, as LTU chipped in one on the open net. The contest came to a close 3-0 in favor of the home team.

The Saints will hold home play for the first time in 2025, as AQ will host LTU for game two of the series on Saturday (Jan. 11) with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
