Grand Rapids, Mich. — In the first home game of 2025, Aquinas Men's Basketball fought hard in an impressive 76-73 win over the Crusaders. Four of the five starters scored 11 or more points, led by sophomore
Caden Pokorzynski with 19. Aquinas overcame a three-point halftime deficit en route to the win.
Aquinas 76, Madonna 73
The Saints needed to show grit and desire to defeat Madonna 76-73. From the start of the game, it was a see-saw battle that showed what Coach Bertoia's team could do when they worked together.
Pokorzynski was sharp, hitting six of his ten shots from the field and seven of eight from the free throw line. He also grabbed 18 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
The Saints went on a 7-0 run midway through the first half to take a 20-13 lead before Madonna tied it at 23.
Devon Boyd answered with 2 of his 14 points to keep AQ on top at the half.
Trailing by three with 12:03 to go,
Jadakiss Lewis hit a huge triple to tie it and followed it up with a medium jumper to give Aquinas the lead for good.
With less than a minute remaining,
Terrance Jones hit a pair of free throws, two of his 15 points to seal the game. Aquinas improves to 8-7 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
