AQ finishes 2-0 at 7s season opener

Allendale, Mich. — The Aquinas College women's rugby team started their 7s season with a bang as they dominated the pitch on Saturday (Feb. 22) at the Great Lake 7s Tournament held at Grand Valley State.

The Saints had their first contest of the tournament and season against the Grand Valley B team as AQ gave the Lakers rough seas for a 70-0 victory.

Aquinas then faced off with Ferris State for game two, where the Saints doubled down and once again demonstrated who was in charge of the pack with a 42-12 win over the Bulldogs.

AQ was to have one last contest against Calvin, but it was postponed due to an injury which brought the tournament to a halt. The teams are actively looking for a reschedule date.

Here is what Head Coach Dani Harris had to share about the team's season opener display "The first tournament of the 7s season is always one of my favorites. It shows our preparation, chemistry as a team, and lessons we need to learn. This tournament exceeded my expectations and every player shined from our vets to our rookies on the team."

Up Next

AQ's next schedule date is Saturday (Mar. 15) as the Saints will make way to Chicago, Illinois, to compete in the Dawg Town 7s Tournament hosted by Loyola.
