Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Campbellsville, KY – The Aquinas Saints baseball team hit the road for valuable early-season reps, but their trip to Kentucky proved to be a difficult challenge. Facing off against a strong Campbellsville squad, the Saints struggled to contain the Tigers' potent offense, dropping both games—falling 13-0 in the opener before putting up a fight in a 16-5 loss in the second game.
Game 1: Campbellsville 13, Aquinas 0
The Saints were stymied by Campbellsville ace Garrett Maloney, who was dominant over six innings, allowing just five hits while striking out 13. The Tigers wasted no time setting the tone, as Antony Gilbert launched a three-run homer in the first inning, followed by an RBI double from James Teets.
Aquinas was unable to break through against Maloney, managing singles from Ramsey Bousseau, Grant Martin, Will Kovl, Dylan Nguyen, and Logan Snelling but failing to push a run across. Campbellsville pulled away in the fourth inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Tanner Park that extended the lead to 10-0.
Ethan Bowen took the loss for the Saints, allowing five runs on seven hits over two innings. Despite the tough outing, Aquinas was aggressive on the basepaths, swiping four bases in the game. However, Campbellsville's well-rounded offensive attack proved too much to handle.
Game 2: Campbellsville 16, Aquinas 5
The second game started on a much better note for Aquinas. The Saints jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on a sacrifice fly from Nguyen and a clutch three-run double by Kasy Shadduck.
However, Campbellsville quickly answered with a three-run blast from Bret Bowers in the bottom half of the inning. The Tigers took the lead in the second on a two-run homer by Zane Skansi, and from there, they seized control. A five-run fifth inning, punctuated by a grand slam from Henry Wright, put the game out of reach.
Shadduck led the Saints' offense, going 1-for-1 with three RBIs. Bousseau, Luke LaCross, Stephan Weinert, and Chase Robinson each recorded a hit, while Martin and Dawson Shearer worked two walks apiece as Aquinas showed patience at the plate.
On the mound, Sam Pollack took the loss after allowing seven runs on four hits in 1.1 innings. The Saints used five pitchers, but Campbellsville's relentless lineup—racking up 13 hits and three home runs—was too much to contain.
