Fort Wayne, IN – The arrival of spring means the return of AQ Tennis, and the Saints kicked off their 2025 season with a road match against Indiana Tech. Despite a strong effort, Aquinas fell 7-0 to the Warriors in their first competition of the year.
Singles Recap
Indiana Tech controlled singles play, securing all six matches. At No. 1 singles, Tom Gangov put up a valiant fight against Andres Pizzamiglia, narrowly losing 6-4, 7-5. Dominick Marinelli also battled at No. 4, but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 2, Nicholas Lourido struggled to find his rhythm against Juan Pablo Lazo, dropping a 6-0, 6-0 decision. Dominic Maslanka (No. 3) and Josh Chlebek (No. 5) also fell in straight sets, while Indiana Tech claimed the No. 6 match by default.
Doubles Recap
Aquinas showed resilience in doubles play, nearly taking the top matchup. Gangov and Marinella fought hard at No. 1 doubles but came up just short in a tight 7-5 battle against the Lazo brothers. At No. 2, Chlebek and Maslanka faced a tough challenge, falling 6-1. Indiana Tech secured the No. 3 doubles match by default, clinching the doubles point and setting the tone for the match.

Coach's Take
In her debut match as Associate Head Coach, Kerri Orders was encouraged by the team's effort.
"Indiana Tech proved to be tough competition, but our AQ players fought hard and demonstrated progress in both singles and doubles," said Orders. "Despite the result, we saw solid improvements in match play, and we'll continue building on this experience."

The Saints will have a few weeks to regroup before their next match. Aquinas returns to action on Saturday, March 29, when they host Concordia at the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Center. The first serve is set for noon.
