Grand Rapids, Mich. — The Aquinas College Valorant Team competed in the second round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Play-In Tournament on Tuesday (Apr. 1) against Saint Xavier.
Saint Xavier 2, Aquinas 0
As the two teams took to the online area, both of the roster's post-season dreams awaited. AQ knew the test was on as the Saints had formerly lost to the Cougars earlier this season.
Aquinas was up for the challenge as the team had battled uphill all season, but it appeared the Cougars were a hand out of reach and a few steps ahead. The Saints showed signs of life throughout the first game but were unable to keep the contest tight. In time SXU pulled away, taking the first map 13-4. Looking for a rally, AQ changed up its game plan by utilizing different agents. Even so, the Cougars remained the apex predator. This time around, SXU claimed the victory 13-3 giving them the overall 2-0 win.
By the Numbers
This is what Interim Director
Tommy Gehl had to share about the team's season, "This is not how we wanted the season to come to a close, but even from the start of the semester we knew this was going to be a difficult challenge. It is remarkable to see how the team has grown both online and off. Similar to the history of Aquinas Esports, we were a collection of student-athletes driven by competition that made things happen. I know the team had their post-season hopes, but we have so many things to smile back on. The team should be truly proud of themselves and how far they have come in just this semester. This season of competition is all owed to the students and our gracious volunteer coach Morgan Ferguson".
