Saints Beat Concordia 2-1 Behind Goals from Radaz and Rebera

Team Moves to 6-1 in WHAC Play

Results

The Saints women's soccer team was victorious against Concordia on Saturday by a score of 2-1 at the AQ Athletic Field. AQ improved to 11-2-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the WHAC with the win while the Cardinals fell to 6-7-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the WHAC.
 
In the first half, there were not many chances as both the Saints and the Cardinals played good defense The Saints came the closest to scoring when Hannah Crum bent a shot from outside of the box that hit the left post. Concordia's best chance came when AQ goalkeeper Braeleigh McCoy came out of her goal but the ball was cleared by the Aquinas backline and the game was scoreless at the half.
 
Hannah Crum had a great opportunity to start the second half as she got in free on goal but blasted the shot over the bar. The Saints would score a few minutes after that opportunity in the 65th minute when Raegan Radaz put the ball in the net after a scramble in the box and an assist by Danni Mckenzie to give AQ a 1-0 lead.
 
Jenna Smith had an opportunity to extend the lead in the 68th minute but push a shot just wide to the right. In the 72nd minute, AQ had another opportunity but a chip was cleared by the Cardinals defense. In the 82nd minute, Concordia had a counter attack but Smith broke up the attack.
 
The Saints would score their second goal of the game when Caitlyn Rebera smashed in a rebound for her first goal of the season to give the team a 2-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Katelyn Kahael Concordia cut into the lead in the 85th minute through a header by Samantha Golchuck off of an assist by Amay Ciszewski to set up a frantic finish. McCoy made a crucial save in the 88th minute to preserve the lead that the team would hold onto for the win.
 
Aquinas had a big advantage in shots with 19 compared to eight for the Cardinals. AQ also led in shots on goal with 13 while Concordia only put five shots on target. Radaz and Smith led the team in shots on goal with three while Crum was the leader in overall shots with five. McCoy made four saves in the win.
 
AQ is back in action on Wednesday, October 23rd when the team faces Rochester at 7:00 PM at the AQ Athletic Field.
