Men's Soccer Falls to Siena Heights 2-0

The men's soccer team dropped a hard fought battle this afternoon with Siena Heights, falling by a score of 2-0. The Saints record falls to 4-7-6 on the season and 3-4-3 in WHAC play. Aquinas is now in 7th in the WHAC standings with one match to play in the regular season.

On a cold, rainy afternoon the two teams played a scoreless first-half, with neither team managing to create many good scoring opportunities. Just a total of nine shots were taken between the two teams, with just four on target. The second-half was a different story, with the two teams combining for 24 shots, with 12 of those on goal. Aquinas created numerous scoring chances in the final 45, but were unable to convert. Twice Aquinas had shots on target that looked to beat the Siena Heights goalkeeper, but hit Siena Heights defenders and stayed out of goal.

The visitors from Siena Heights broke the deadlock less than two minutes into the half and added the insurance goal in the 76th minute. In between, Aquinas saw near misses but was never able to get the scoreboard level despite 16 corner-kicks, 11 in the second-half.

Antonio Strassioto made 6 saves in net for the Saints, bringing his season total to 93 on the year.

Aquinas closes the regular season this Saturday at 12:00pm against Cleary on Senior day.
